Demis is the co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind. DeepMind, one of the world’s leading AI companies, was founded in 2010 and acquired by Google in January 2014, and is now central to Google’s AI efforts. DeepMind has achieved numerous landmark AI breakthroughs such as AlphaGo, the first programme to beat the world champion at the game of Go, and AlphaFold, which solved the 50-year grand challenge of protein structure prediction by accurately predicting the 3D shape of proteins, critical for disease understanding and drug discovery.
Demis has won many prestigious international awards for his research work including the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for protein structure prediction. His work has been cited over 200,000 times, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society. In 2024, Demis was awarded a knighthood for services to artificial intelligence, and in both 2017 and 2025 Demis featured in the Time 100 list of most influential people.
Demis was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2017.
