Royal Academy of Engineering-Bombardier Chair in Composites Engineering at Ulster University
Professor Eileen Harkin-Jones has built a distinguished career in polymer process development and advanced thermoplastic polymer composites.
Holding the Royal Academy of Engineering–Bombardier Chair in Composites Engineering at Ulster University, Eileen’s research focused on developing and optimising advanced materials, particularly thermoplastic nanocomposites, for high-performance applications.
Her work bridges industry and academia, supporting innovation in sectors such as aerospace and manufacturing. Eileen has played a key role in strengthening research capacity and fostering collaboration across Northern Ireland’s engineering landscape.
Eileen has published extensively and continues to contribute to the development of materials that underpin modern engineering systems.
She was elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2011, Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineering in 2017 and awarded an OBE in 2013.
