Executive Vice President (Development and Construction), Sphere Entertainment
With an industry career exceeding thirty years, Paul Westbury CBE has made a name for himself in the construction of sports and entertainment stadia. He is the current Executive Vice President of Development and Construction for Sphere Entertainment Co and formerly steered projects such as the Emirates Stadium and the London Olympic Stadium.
Paul began his industrial career as a trainee at Buro Happold in 1991, eventually becoming its youngest partner and director at the time. It was here that he developed his specialism in cutting-edge venue structures, leading several prominent design projects, including London’s Millennium Dome – which won a Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award for its innovative cable net roof.
After twenty years at Buro Happold, Paul went onto Laing O’Rourke, where he served as Group Technical Director. At the same time, he also took on a role as Director of the Laing O’Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering at the University of Cambridge.
Paul’s pioneering venue designs have won the attention of industry, Government, and media alike. In addition to winning a MacRobert Award for the Millennium Dome, Paul also has a Gold Medal from the Institute of Structural Engineers and was awarded a CBE in the 2013 New Year’s Honours List.
In his current role at Sphere Entertainment, Paul now oversees the development of all Sphere venues including upcoming projects in the Middle East.
