Former Capital Programmes Director, London Underground
David Waboso is a chartered civil engineer with a proven track record in UK industry, having delivered large and complex infrastructure projects.
After obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering from Coventry University and a master's degree from Imperial College London. David initially began his career in education, teaching maths at a comprehensive school in east London.
He then built his early engineering career experience working on the construction of the M25 in Essex and furthered this experience through civil engineering projects in Africa.
David then worked on the Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock and subsequently joined The Nichols Group, where he moved into rail construction. Here, he managed key developments across the UK transport network, including the DLR upgrade for which he was recognised as UK Project Manager of the Year and the Jubilee Line extension where he led the cross-functional teams successfully opening the line for the new millennium.
David’s experience and expertise in rail development earned him recognition at a government and regulatory level. he has served in director positions for the Strategic Rail Authority and the Rail Safety and Standards Board. In 2005 he joined London Underground as director of engineering, then capital programmes director on the tube upgrades, and in 2014 he was awarded the CBE for his work on the tube.
In 2016, he was appointed MD of Digital Railway at Network Rail. Since retiring from executive work in 2019, David has held several non-executive director and adviser roles across the transport, water and energy sectors.
David has been a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering since 2007.
