1. Grants policies and positions

All researchers and organisations we fund must comply with our grant funding policies and positions which, with our Conditions of Award and Letter of Offer form the Grant Agreement.

2. National security

The Academy recognises the risk that technology or knowledge developed as part of the work that the Academy supports could be misused by a foreign state to build capacity to target UK interests in a hostile fashion, or to control or repress their population.

All recipients must abide by our National Security Policy, in particular, by reporting any concern about National Security to their Academy contact, attend training events around National Security risks, and abide by risk mitigation plans.

3. Use of generative AI tools in funding applications and assessment

All researchers and organisations we fund must comply with our grant funding policies and positions which, with our Conditions of Award and Letter of Offer form the Grant Agreement.

The Academy has aligned with other UK funders around the use of generative AI tools in funding applications. The Research Funders Policy Group joint statement sets out our expectations around the use of generative AI tools in applications and assessment. For specific requirements in preparing funding applications please also refer to the guidance outlined in scheme notes.
