UK IC Postdoctoral Research Fellowships
2021-2023
Timothy Pelham received an Masters in Physics at the University of Surrey in 2009, followed by work as a Systems Engineer for MBDA in Bristol. In 2012 Timothy left MBDA to pursue a PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of Bristol, graduating in 2018. Currently pursuing an Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Bristol, supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering. His research interests extend from antennas and propagation physics, across electromagnetics modelling, to complex systems modelling and concept design. His current work is focused on secure wireless communications, critical to the modern world, and with increasing data traffic their security and privacy only becomes more important.
This research combines conventional sensing and direction-finding techniques with machine learning and radio frequency fingerprinting to develop methods for self-securing networks of trusted devices.

In addition to his research, Timothy is a proponent of open source software for research and engineering in order to promote collaborations, and enable development of novel systems. To this end Timothy has published LyceanEM as a framework for rapid virtual prototyping of antenna arrays, and frequency and time domain channel modelling. In 2023, Timothy launched LyceanEM Consulting Ltd to offer expert capabilities in antenna array design, complex systems modelling, and beamforming architecture. This includes work for the Satellite Applications Catapult on Space Based Solar Power. In May 2023, Timothy hosted "The Power of the Sun: Workshop on Space based Solar Power", this workshop brought together over 90 attendees from over four different countries to hear work on different technologies for space based solar power and collaborate to identify future research trends and challenges for the development of the potential of this sustainable, zero carbon energy source.
