Research Fellowships 2021
Light is a powerful and precise tool to mould or inspect nature at its limits as well as to characterise or shape different key materials or tissue properties.
Dr Belli’s research aims to deliver a new generation of light sources based on hollow-core fibres that will provide enhanced control, fast tunability, and spectral power from the vacuum ultraviolet to the whole visible spectral range. Such light sources will enable several applications, such as: (i) semiconductor metrology, to sense the building block of integrated circuits and exploit new material platforms with better use of raw material resources and better power efficiencies; (ii) molecular spectroscopy, to control the excitation molecules and steer their complex reactions; (iii) to control the generation of electron bunches, right at the start of the long chain of acceleration stages that will take them to nearly the speed of light in free-electron lasers.
