Dr Yang Cao is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the University of Edinburgh. His research spans database systems, data management, data quality, and the intersection of databases and machine learning, with a focus on querying and analysing heterogeneous data within bounded resources. His recent research also investigates the power and implication of ML models in these tasks and develops foundations of database systems extended with ML models. His research has been internationally recognised via major awards in the research field. He is a recipient of the Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship, the SIGMOD Research Highlight Award, and the SIGMOD Best Paper Award. His work has been invited to the ACM TODS special issues for ‘Best-of-PODS’ (for theory), ‘Best-of-SIGMOD’ (for systems), and the ‘Best-of-BICOD’ Computer Journal special issue (for applications).
