Research Fellowships 2020
Dr Bosi studies focus on developing personalised computational models to analyse the haemodynamics during atrial fibrillation (AF). AF is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and can stimulate the formation of blood clots, or thrombi, in a heart region called the left atrial appendage (LAA), leading to stroke and vascular dementia.
Dr Bosi aims to help cardiologists in assessing the clotting risk and in selecting the most suitable therapy for each individual AF patient. She is employing pioneering engineering techniques, including statistical shape analysis and computational modelling, to provide clinicians with information on which anatomical parameters affect the blood circulation inside the heart and the LAA during AF. This enables the cardiologist to classify patients at higher risk of stroke based on morphological measurements.
