Research Fellowships 2017
Dr Hagen specialises in methods development for X-ray computed tomography (CT). CT is best known for its use in medicine, but its high-resolution sibling, micro-CT, has emerged as a driver of scientific discovery. Micro-CT can provide nondestructive images of the internal structures of a range of different samples. It can be applied to many disciplines, including biology, materials science, and cultural heritage.
While micro-CT can produce very high-quality images, it may suffer from poor contrast for weakly-absorbing materials and from long scan times at high resolution. Dr Hagen’s work focuses on the interplay between scanner design, acquisition schemes, and reconstruction methods to solve these issues and make micro-CT more widely applicable. She is also interested in the operational aspects of micro-CT and in this context develops methods for high-throughput imaging and minimised user involvement during complex scanning sequences.
