Professor Richard Bourne holds a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair working on Digital Discovery and Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals based at the Institute of Process Research and Development at the University of Leeds. Richard's research is focussed in the areas of Digital Manufacturing, Process Research and Development using enabling technologies for synthetic chemistry. With a specific focus on self-optimizing reactors and Industry 4.0, Professor Bourne aims to revolutionize the development and discovery of new molecules and processes. His research integrates flow reactors, advanced process control, machine learning and automation. He works to leverage the power of automation and machine learning to enhance productivity, increase sustainability, and accelerate discovery. By harnessing self-optimizing reactors and Industry 4.0 technologies, Professor Bourne is driving the transition towards a sustainable and efficient chemical industry of the future.
