Professor Lewis is working with the Rail Safety and Standards Board and other railway industry stakeholders to provide fundamental understanding of railhead contamination formation; low adhesion mechanisms and mitigation needed to achieve change in: low adhesion mitigation (sanding, traction gels and rail head cleaning); adhesion forecasting and driver behaviour in low adhesion conditions.
