Research Chairs and Senior Research Fellowships 2017-18
This research's vision is to decarbonise drinking water treatment, with an initial focus on rural Scottish communities to deliver sustainable low-cost, low-energy, low maintenance, point-of-entry drinking water treatment. We aim to achieve this by enhancing slow-sand filtration, a process whereby biological activity within a sand filter delivers clean drinking water. We are deconstructing these complex processes, to discover how we can intensity them. We are focusing on integrating the biological treatment with a heat-pump to increase activity, while chilling the treated water, to deliver potable water of the highest quality.
