Research Chairs and Senior Research Fellowships 2017-18
Professor Ashutosh Tiwari (PhD CEng FIMechE FIET) holds the prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) and Airbus Research Chair in Digital Manufacturing at the University of Sheffield. He is also the Faculty Director of Research and Innovation for Engineering at the University. He has research expertise in digitalisation and instrumentation of skill-intensive manufacturing processes, in-process inspection and quality control, and optimisation of manufacturing systems. Internationally renowned for research in digital manufacturing with around 25 years of experience in manufacturing research and innovation, he serves on the EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team (SAT) for Manufacturing and has a strong track record of leading cross-TRL projects worth over £22mn as lead through funding from EPSRC, RAEng, Innovate UK, ATI, AMSCI, KTP and industry. He is Sheffield Lead of £5M Made Smarter Research Centre for Connected Factories and Deputy Director of £10M EPSRC Future Electrical Machines Manufacturing Hub. He has produced 351 publications (160 journal and 136 conference papers, h-index 38, citation count 9,291), graduated 38 PhDs, and was awarded an EPSRC HVM Catapult Fellowship. He is an Associate Editor of ‘AI for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing Journal’ (Cambridge Uni Press) and is in Editorial Board of ‘Journal of Engineering Manufacture’ (IMechE) and Journal of Engineering Design (Taylor & Francis).
