Research Chairs and Senior Research Fellowships 2020-21
The research in Paul’s laboratory is focused on understanding the evolution of antibiotic biosynthesis and evolution of antibiotic-producing bacteria. Using this information Paul's laboratory can then engineer the metabolism of producing bacteria to make more of known antibiotics and also manipulate biosynthesis to make novel antibiotics. Paul's laboratory is also interested in trying to use engineering biology to generate antibiotic-producing bacteria that can grow on waste products. Coupled to this work is an interest in combatting antimicrobial resistance in the clinic and using engineering approaches to develop the next generation of point of care devices for rapid diagnostics (See https://microplatedx.com/)
