About Think Human
Think Human was an exciting collaboration which encouraged everyone to put themselves and others at the heart of the engineering process. Ergonomics and Human Factors helps to understand how people interact with each other and things around them, and supports engineers and designers to put people first in the design and development of new systems.
Think Human supported a group of Ergonomics and Human Factors professionals to develop their skills in public engagement and creative communication methods, giving them the opportunity and reflective framework to develop in-person and online workshops and the support to deliver these workshops to school groups, particularly to participants typically underrepresented in the engineering workforce.
They have become confident advocates of Ergonomics and Human Factors, being able to clearly understand and communicate the value of their work to others in the future.
Key outcomes
The school groups experienced a design challenge through ‘Get a Grip’ workshops, supported by Ergonomics and Human Factors experts, working to understand the importance of inclusive design. This highlighted the important work of the often-overlooked discipline of Ergonomics and Human Factors, providing a career path option that may not otherwise be considered.
These workshops engaged almost 300 school and college students. Think Human also contributed to a wider exhibition which celebrated the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors at the Museum of Making in Derby, supported by Loughborough University. This exhibition allowed Think Human to reach a much wider, diverse audience.
