About Engineering Our Water Future
‘Engineering Our Water Future’ is a multi-media project led by Children’s Radio UK, in association with the School of Engineering, Cardiff University.
The aim was to engage children and inspire them to explore how we can engineer clean, sustainable water systems in an age of climate disruption, and discover the opportunities that engineering offers everyone, irrespective of their backgrounds.
Key outcomes
The project created 12 audio programmes, with animated versions, to introduce children to the key issues and how engineering can help – from supply and waste to smart technology and engineering to reduce demand. The programmes are presented by the Aquanauts, who are wild about water – and how to make sure there’s enough for everyone who needs it – now… and in years to come.
There was a variety of Aquanauts Live events at a range of different locations across the UK and with themes to maximise engagement. The ‘Engineer a Design' competition ran between 10th February to end May, and also ‘Pose a water engineering question to the experts’ and received 235 entries, with questions answered by Cardiff University colleagues and partners.
‘Inspiring Engineering’ podcasts: The project ran a series of tailored podcasts workshops to help engineers learn and practise skills to become better public engagers, teaching them how to discuss engineering to different audiences, how to research and record, edit and publish a podcast.
