Soorathep Kheawhom
Soorathep Kheawhom is an associate professor at Chulalongkorn University, with expertise in advanced battery technologies, including zinc-air, zinc-ion, and zinc-iodine batteries. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers, and collaborated with industry partners like Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, leading to a patent for a tubular cell design for tri-electrode zinc-air batteries. His innovations have been recognised with Gold Medals at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva.
His innovation, the tri-electrode rechargeable zinc-air battery, is an innovative energy storage solution designed to address the critical challenges faced by renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Traditional zinc-air batteries often struggle with issues related to efficiency and stability, limiting their ability to provide reliable, large-scale energy storage. His unique design overcomes these limitations by incorporating a tri-electrode system that separates the charging and discharging processes, allowing for independent optimisation of both functions, resulting in improved overall performance, greater efficiency, and a significantly longer battery lifespan.
