Dr Noor Azlina Hassan
Dr Noor Azlina Hassan currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Manufacturing and Materials Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), having obtained her Bachelors, Masters and PhD in Materials Science from UKM, Malaysia. She was selected for a scholarship for sub-specialist/post-doctoral work in 2013, and worked at the IBM Research Centre, USA under a special project of Nanogel Star Polymer Anti-Microbial research with the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB), and IBM Almaden Research Centre, San Jose.
Atmospheric corrosion, and under-insulation corrosion, are two major corrosion-related challenges experienced across countless different industries, particularly structural, oil and gas, and petrochemical. Her innovation is addressing this prevalent issue though smart nanocoating technology that incorporates nanoparticles into the coating base of the paint to transform it into an anticorrosion agent. The paint not only deters corrosion, but is also environmentally-friendly, requires a low maintenance, and energy-saving, due to the extended use of each smart coating layer of paint.
