Monalyn Oloroso
Monalyn Oloroso has served as the project lead for various externally-funded projects by the Philippines' Department of Science and Technology, Department of Agriculture, and the USDA. Through her work at Capiz State University, she has garnered several regional, national, and international awards for her academic research, and innovative developments.
Her 'FIBER XMach' innovation is able to rapidly extract the lustrous fibers from pineapple leaves without any degradation to the quality of the fibre. The hand-held technology is able to extract the fibre of one leaf per minute, while its motorised counterpart is able to work 4 to 5 times faster. The quality of the fibre extracted using these machines are comparable to those extracted from the manual method, with this device also holding application to other fibrous sources, such as Abaca.
