Dr Carla Souza
Carla Souza, a pharmacist with a Ph.D. in Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics from FCFRP/USP, has over 9 years of experience in developing advanced drug delivery systems. Her career includes research at Charité in Berlin, and post-doctoral work at Harvard-MIT in tissue engineering. In 2021, she founded Proderme, focusing on innovative drug delivery solutions, and have since led PIPE/FAPESP Phase I-III projects.
Through Proderme, she has developed a revolutionary drug delivery system which uses tiny, painless polymeric microneedles that dissolve into the skin to administer precise doses of medication directly into the body. This solution offers a more safe and efficient alternative to traditional injections and oral medications, reducing the risk of infection and pain, and ensuring that prescription drugs are administered precisely, and in the correct quantity. Additionally, these microneedles do not require refrigeration, making them ideal for use in regions with limited access to healthcare facilities.
