Dr Ahmad Syahrin Idris
Dr Ahmad Syahrin Idris received his masters degree in electrical and electronics engineering (EEE) from the University of Sheffield, and his Ph.D. from Kyushu University, Japan. His broad industrial experience encompasses product development engineering, specialising in solutions for automotive and industrial microcontrollers. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Southampton, Malaysia. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the numerous challenges faced by healthcare professionals inspired his current research on empowering the healthcare industry through integration of electrical and electronics engineering.
His innovation, MEDAIRO Rehab, is an innovative smart walker that leverages robotics, advanced sensors, and real-time feedback to enhance mobility and balance for individuals undergoing mobility rehabilitation. Not only does it aid physiotherapists in assessing patients and expediting recovery time, but it also supports mobility particularly for post-operation and ageing patients by increasing lower limb strength and reducing the risk of falls, thereby increasing autonomy for patients. Its advanced features, such as real-time feedback and personalised rehabilitation programmes, provide tailored support to further accelerate recovery, and enhance the users overall quality of life.
