Yunga's functionality revolves around its IoT-based security solution, carefully crafted to swiftly connect communities in low-resource settings during attacks and emergencies. This innovation is grounded in the effective application of traditional African community models that have thrived for generations.

At its core, Yunga leverages a community-centric approach. It draws inspiration from the "10-household model" that has long been prevalent throughout Africa. In this model, households are organized into groups consisting of 10 to 30 neighboring households. Each household is equipped with a Yunga device tailored for their home. As these Yunga devices are systematically installed in all homes within a designated area, they become interconnected into a single unified network.

The strength of Yunga lies in this interconnectedness. When an emergency, such as an attack or crisis, occurs in one household, it triggers an immediate response from all the connected households within the network. This response not only involves neighbors looking out for one another but also includes the local police station, which receives alerts promptly.
Yunga's mission is underpinned by the amalgamation of community trust, sharing, and cutting-edge technology. By promoting and fostering these values, Yunga aims to fortify community policing and crime prevention throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.
