Dr Pollyana Pereira Firmino

Dr Pollyana Pereira Firmino combines a unique background in Physics, Electrical Engineering and Statistics, combining these fields to revolutionize drug development. Holding a double PhD in Biomolecular Physics  from the University of Sao Paulo and Nanocience for Medicine and the Environment from the University of Bologna, she is an expert in "Crystal Engineering" - the science of optimising how molecules are structured and their properties. Pollyana acts as the Chief Scientific Officer of the project, possessing a track record of innovation, and has filed patents to improve medications properties. This interdisciplinary expertise qualifies her to lead the development of technologies that solve complex challenges.

The innovation, PolymorphID, is a platform that automates the identification of a drug’s solid form, to ensure the medicine's safety and efficacy. This project has the potential to generate a spin-off from NanoBusiness with support from the Corporate Venture Builder, ConvergeLab. Developing enhanced drugs and quality control analyses involves creating and identifying precise molecular structures. PolymorphID addresses this bottleneck using artificial intelligence to accelerate characterisation, promoting sustainability by reducing chemical waste, speeding up the delivery of high-quality, effective treatments to the consumers and health systems.
