Dr Leandro Maciel Almeida
Dr Leandro Maciel Almeida is an Associate Professor at the Center for Informatics (CIn) at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). He holds a PhD in Computer Science, and completed his post-doctorate studies at the University of Birmingham. With over 15 years of experience in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Leandro is a leading expert in digitalizing olfactory data. His academic excellence, backed by over a decade of research and publications in prestigious journals such as Nature Scientific Reports, uniquely qualifies him to architect the complex algorithms needed to translate chemical signals into actionable industrial insights.
Leandro’s innovation, Aromalytics, is a portable electronic nose designed to eliminate subjectivity in the food industry. Current quality control relies on human sensory panels, which are prone to fatigue, or external labs, where sample degradation occurs during transport. Aromalytics solves this by using AI sensors to analyze volatile compounds on-site in under 60 seconds. This technology outperforms traditional methods by delivering objective, real-time data to detect contamination and standardize freshness. This approach prevents costly product recalls, reduces food waste, and ensures that only safe, high-quality products reach the consumer.
