A second round of The Science and Technology Venture Capital Fellowship, launched by the Royal Academy of Engineering and Imperial Business School last year, was one of the key announcements made today, as part of the government's approach to turbo charge the tech sector.
Technology Secretary, Peter Kyle shared a range of actions the government is taking to harness technology to boost growth, improve public services, and unlock new opportunities for communities across the UK during his keynote address at London Tech Week earlier today.
The Science and Technology Venture Capital Fellowship was conceived to encourage the deployment of greater risk capital into deep tech and life sciences ventures with the potential to drive UK growth and solve some of the most pressing challenges facing society today. It represents an opportunity for investors to not only advance careers, but to help shape a sector that holds solutions to support our society and planet.
Ana Avaliani, Director at the Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Hub said:
"Deep tech investing requires more than financial acumen. It demands genuine understanding of the science and engineering behind breakthrough innovations. The Science and Technology Venture Capital Fellowship we are delivering in partnership with Imperial Business School is creating a new generation of investors capable of backing the technologies that will define the next decade, benefit society and engineer better lives."
Professor Ramana Nanda, Associate Dean for Enterprise, Imperial Business School and Director of Imperial’s Institute for Deep Tech Entrepreneurship said:
“We are proud to be working with the Royal Academy of Engineering to deliver the second year of our Venture Capital Fellowship and look forward to welcoming our new cohort. The Fellowship highlights our ambition to nurture the specialised talent that is needed to deploy greater risk capital into science and engineering-based ventures that are key to driving growth of the UK’s economy.”
