PUBLIC EVENT
The Research Chairs and Senior Research Fellowships scheme supports UK-based engineering academics to lead ambitious, applied research in collaboration with an industrial partner. Following a comprehensive review and a temporary pause in 2025, the scheme is now open for applications. This webinar aims to introduce the revised scheme, outline key updates, and share experiences and advice from current awardees. It will also include a section for questions.
The scheme offers up to £450,000 over five years to mid-career and established engineering academics in the UK to support collaborative research with industry, with additional contributions from both the host university and industry partner required to support the work. The industrial partner is required to provide cash or in-kind support to the fellowship, proportionate to the size of the company, and the host institution is required to provide at least £225,000 cash or in-kind support.
The webinar will provide practical guidance on eligibility criteria, application timelines, and expectations for collaboration with industrial partners. Attendees will also hear about the benefits offered through the RCSRF programme beyond direct funding. These include reduced teaching and administrative duties to allow greater research focus, mentorship from Academy Fellows, access to specialised training and networking opportunities, and membership of the Academy’s Awardee Excellence Community – an active network supporting collaboration, shared learning, and professional development.
Awardees will also illustrate the real-world impact of their RCSRF-supported research and share tips for preparing an application.
