In September 2024, the Royal Academy of Engineering launched a new education programme with 20 primary and secondary schools in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire. This is Engineering: Schools - Scotland launch celebration aims to support teachers and inspire young learners to continue studying science and technology subjects beyond age 16, so they can make informed decisions about pursuing careers in engineering.
Funded and supported by Boeing, the RAF, Venterra and the estate of the late John Gozzard, the programme’s main goal is to encourage women and other people from groups underrepresented in engineering to pursue professional engineering careers. It also aims to address the need for a diverse workforce to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
This event will introduce teachers and students aged between 9 and 14 from participating schools to local industries, employers, and businesses, while showcasing the wide range of exciting opportunities available in the engineering profession.
- connect with local schools and businesses over a buffet lunch
- hear from young engineers about their aspirations, achievements, and career paths
- join a panel discussion with insights from students and industry professionals
- team up with schools for hands-on engineering activities
- learn more about how the Academy’s education programmes are working with schools and business across the country.
