Bio: Professor Steve Parkes worked on Underwater Acoustic Systems for six years and then at BAE Space Systems for seven years. He then moved to the University of Dundee where he worked for 24 years becoming Professor of Spacecraft Electronic Systems. His research covered spacecraft onboard networks, signal processing, vision-based navigation and related planet surface simulation. Steve authored, with inputs from international engineers, the SpaceWire and SpaceFibre standards for spacecraft on-board networks. SpaceWire is now used on hundreds as spacecraft. In 2002 he founded STAR-Dundee to support users of SpaceWire, where he is currently Chief Technology Officer.
Theme description: This dialogue will explore some aspects of systems engineering which are applicable to many systems including electronic systems used on-board spacecrafts. The discussion will be illustrated through experience developing spacecraft electronic systems. This session is intended as a two-way dialogue and will be suitable for engineers of any career stage or sector to share experiences.
