This workshop is a dynamic dissemination of the impactful outcomes from the RAEng Industrial Fellowship, integrating research innovations from the University of Surrey with NPL and UKAEA. Participants will engage in assembling two scaled-down nuclear fusion reactor models, reflecting the UK's ambition to deliver its first fusion reactor. The workshop begins with a talk from Surrey on innovations in evaluating nuclear fusion materials and components, followed by a UKAEA expert discussing nuclear fusion’s potential for green and sustainable energy. As participants assemble a fully formed reactor model, NPL will present the critical role of standardisation in the future commercialisation of fusion power plants. The session concludes with insights from NPL’s pivotal role under the Department of Innovation, Science, and Technology, highlighting regulatory and policy development for safety and reliability.
