Professor Epaminondas Mastorakos FREng, Professor of Applied Thermodynamics at the University of Cambridge, presents the use of H2 in aviation, which necessitates major changes in the propulsion system, in the plane architecture and in airport infrastructure. In the webinar, some systems-level estimates of what it takes to achieve extensive H2 use in aviation are presented. In addition, the status of novel hydrogen jet engines is discussed to emphasise the huge amount of research still needed to ensure safe and low-emission H2 combustion.
