The President's Special Awards for Pandemic Service recognise exceptional examples of engineering in the service of society in the context of pandemic challenges. Many of the winners have featured in previous Innovation in a crisis panels, and as we draw this phase of the series to a close this event will bring together Academy Fellows and winners to celebrate and reflect on the awards.
This event was chaired by Professor Karen Holford CBE FREng FLSW, and featured a special address from HRH The Princess Royal, Royal Fellow of the Academy.
It opened with an overview and discussion of the awards, and Professor Holford was joined by:
- Professor Sir Jim McDonald FREng FRSE, Academy President
- Professor Raffaella Ocone OBE FREng FRSE, Chair of the Academy Awards Committee.
This was then followed by a panel discussion with three of the award winners, showcasing the breadth of the engineering contributions made:
