Professor Stephen Eichhorn is a leading authority in the materials science and engineering of cellulose. He has received several national and international prizes and his research has led to the development of new products and practices. He has undertaken senior leadership roles, including being head of a major engineering school at the University of Exeter, serving on the advisory board of the Henry Royce Institute and heading the University of Bristol’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council Centre for Doctoral Training in Composites, Science, Engineering and Manufacturing. He has also made strong contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion within engineering, receiving a 2021 EPSRC ED&I Fellowship focused on supporting Black and Black heritage staff and students in biobased composites.
