Professor Donna Blackmond has made lasting contributions at the interface between chemical engineering and organic chemistry, transforming how we develop manufacturing routes for new medicines. She has proposed novel approaches for the quantitative analysis of data from online reaction monitoring. Her methods have led to large cost reductions for several medicines used to treat diseases including HIV, asthma and diabetes, and have been adopted by regulatory bodies. She is a tireless advocate for academia-industry collaboration through research projects, consultancy, spinouts and software.
