Founding Director, Atelier One Ltd
Neil Thomas is the Founding Director of Atelier One, renowned for innovative structural engineering designs including Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, and U2's 360° world tour stage. He has held academic roles at Yale and MIT, and co-authored the book Liquid Threshold, which documents the diversity of his work at Atelier One. He is currently involved in pioneering the evolution of bamboo structural design, researching materials properties and developing techniques for analysing, jointing and curving the material. Neil teaches at Bamboo U, an education enterprise that has grown out of the centre of the world’s bamboo building movement in Bali, and contributed to Bamboo Contemporary in 2023.
