Chair, Flowcopter Ltd
Dr Niall Caldwell was an early joiner at Artemis Intelligent Power, an engineering and research and development company specialising in hydraulics. There, he developed digital displacement pumps and motors. He designed the first digital hydraulic vehicle driveline, creating high-speed switching valves for efficient power transmission. Niall led teams in machine modelling and system architectures, enabling significant fuel savings in excavators for Danfoss and demonstrated the world's most powerful floating wind turbine for Mitsubishi. As Managing Director of Artemis, he secured funding, launched new pump models, and fostered a strong mission and culture. Niall guided Artemis through ownership changes and co-founded Flowcopter, a spinout that develops drones using the technology. He is an inventor of over 500 patent cases.
