Grant call now open for applications.
Deadline: 2.00pm BST on 28 July 2020
The pilot Leaders in Innovation Fellowships (LIF) Community Grant programme is supporting past and present LIF participants (awardees) to build and deliver high-impact, innovative community-building projects or activities that demonstrate the development of LIF alumni networks, locally or regionally.
Partner countries that are currently confirmed for this grant call are: Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam.
Other partner countries may join this grant call at a later date. Please keep an eye on this webpage for updates.
Under this call, we will support proposals that contribute to one or more of the programme’s aims:
Build and lead local communities of engineering entrepreneurs in their home country.
Create local networks of peer support or 'lifelines' that LIF awardees can contact when required.
Create opportunities for collaborations and partnerships with relevant business or innovation support networks or organisations that can help LIF awardees commercialise their innovations or increase their impact.
Increase connectivity and collaborations between LIF awardees cross-country and/or globally.
Benefits for LIF awardees:
Turn your community ideas into reality with the pilot grant programme.
Lead a LIF community-building project that brings together likeminded LIF awardees to create your own support ecosystem.
Strengthen and expand your personal network to include other organisations or networks that support innovation and entrepreneurship in your country and/or region.
As lead applicant on a successful project, join other lead applicants to form a cross-country and cross-sector LIF champions group with direct access to the Academy.
Make a difference and implement your project to create sustainable networks for you and your peers – now and for the future.
This scheme provides small grants between £3,000 and £5,000 to support LIF champions for six months to undertake highly collaborative community-building activities. Lead applicants making the proposals should build a core project team that includes at least two other LIF awardees who will work with you to implement the project.
The deadline is 2.00pm BST on 28 July 2020. Applicants can expect a decision at the beginning of September 2020.
What do we want to fund?
Listed below are some examples of activities we want to fund through this pilot scheme. This list is not exhaustive; if you have an idea that does not fall into the categories below and need support getting it off the ground, please contact us and we will see where we can help.
Provision of a series of training, workshops or webinars to support the development of entrepreneurial mindsets within local researcher and academic circles (meet-ups or virtual, perhaps in partnership with local entrepreneurship organisations or academic institutions).
Highly engaging and collaborative activities centred on LIF awardees sharing their knowledge and experiences aimed at reducing barriers and tackling common challenges researchers face in the commercialisation process (examples include forming founders groups that meet regularly, peer-mentoring projects, themed clinic sessions, and so on).
Sectorial pitching or demo days that will support alumni and fellows to find funding opportunities and engage with the investment community to increase their chances of scaling (could also involve mapping of the local deep-tech investor community).
Activities to share ways of working or developing strong links with the local entrepreneurship/business ecosystem that is not necessarily tied to the academic circuit (for example, find a founder days organised in partnership with local business accelerators or incubators).
Grant call now open for applications. Deadline: 2.00pm BST on 28 July 2020.
