Applicants must get approval and support for your proposal from your Dean/Pro-Vice-Chancellor (or similar) and the research grants office prior to submitting an application. We advise consulting them in advance about a potential application.

Post-award guidance

The Chair must be hosted at a UK university for the 10-year duration of the award.

The Chair’s contract will be signed between the host institution/university and the Academy. The Chair in Emerging Technologies award will be paid directly to the host institution/university as outlined in the contract.

The Academy will work with each awarded Chair to identify an Academy Fellow to be their mentor. The mentor will provide support and advice to the Chair during the ten-year scheme and monitor the appointment to ensure the Academy’s fund are well spent.

Chairs are required to submit annual progress reports to the Academy. The Chair, Head of Department (or equivalent), Mentor and an Academy representative will meet annually to discuss the progress and future plans. At year five, the Academy will hold a mid-term review.
