The biennial prize will be awarded to an individual, based in the UK, for excellence in materials engineering demonstrated by the successful application of novel materials science and technology in practical engineering systems. A cash prize of £2,000 is made to the winner. 

The prize was established with kind support from the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers.

Nominations will open again in 2019.

2017 winner announced

Professor Mohan Edirisinghe FREng of University College London has received the 2017 Armourers and Brasiers Company Prize. Mohan Edirisinghe has systematically and continuously pioneered both fundamental and user-inspired engineering research, leading to remarkable progress and international excellence in processing and forming advanced materials.

The winner of the inaugural 2015 award was presented to Professor Judith Driscoll from the University of Cambridge.

The inaugural Royal Academy of Engineering Armourers and Brasiers Company Prize has been awarded to Professor Judith Driscoll, Professor of Materials Science at the University of Cambridge. Her research has revolutionised the properties of high temperature superconductors, enabling them to carry much higher currents in a magnetic field.
