The award recognises the contribution of a team of up to five engineers, based in the UK, who have delivered a major engineering project that has had a substantial impact on society.

The Ordsall Chord

Iain Chalker (Amey/Network Rail), Francisco Cortes Ortega (WSP), John Dougan (Network Rail), Brian Duguid (AECOM Mott MacDonald JV) and Mike Pedley (Skanska BAMJV) were awarded the Major Project Award in recognition of the collaboration, skill and engineering flair necessary to deliver such a complex, multidisciplinary feat of railway engineering incorporating the first asymmetric network arch bridge in the world.

SSE Hydro Arena

Ian Lumsden, Martin Surridge, Graeme Moncor, David Brodie, Arup, were awarded the Major Project award for their work on the design and construction of the SSE Hydro Arena Scotland’s newest and largest entertainment venue, the SSE Hydro, has put Glasgow firmly on the world stage for major events.

BAE Systems for the Intermediate Frequency Modem System

Matthew Gore, Nick James and Mark Westcott, BAE Systems were awarded the Major Project Award for the Intermediate Frequency Modem System (IFMS) that enabled communication with the Rosetta spacecraft on its 500 million kilometre mission to visit a comet.

Atkins for delivering broadband infrastructure to Scotland's Highlands and Islands

Atkins has received the award for its part in the delivery of high speed broadband internet infrastructure to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, providing fast internet access to thousands of households and isolated communities.

2014

Arup for the regeneration of King's Cross

Five of Arup's top engineers - John Turzynski, Peter Evans, Ian Gardner, Mike Byrne and Jim Burridge - have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to the delivery of a number of large projects that have transformed King's Cross from a run-down district into a new city quarter and a magnificent multi-modal transport interchange.
