Barriers to women advancing in their careers, or following a particular career path, can include a lack of diverse and visible role models, as well as a shortage of professional networks to help them.
As part of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED20) celebrations, the Royal Academy of Engineering is hosting a special virtual version of this annual event, where the next generation of engineers have an opportunity to hear from and interact with senior industry leaders.
Our speaker, Jane Atkinson FREng, the FT's most influential woman in engineering, and a pioneer in her field, will share her insights into being a woman leader.
Jane Atkinson FREng, Executive Director Engineering and Automation, Bilfinger UK Ltd. Jane distinguished for Iron and Steel troubleshooting and technology transfer. Examples include resolution of steel slab cracking, electrostatic precipitator fires in sinter plants and recycling of edundant equipment. Renowned for increasing the output of all assets she has been responsible for, including the UK's first commercail green energy biomass boiler. Jane has won several awards most notably the CBI First Woman Award in Manufacturing and the prestigious Stephenson's Award for insprining young people in science and engineering.
