Frontiers of Engineering for Development hosts two themed symposia a year to bring together the best early to mid-career researchers and practitioners (0-20 years’ post-doc or industry equivalent) from industry, academia and government. Over two and a half days, the event will run three multidisciplinary workshops related to the overall event theme that is aimed at addressing fundamental development challenges through holistic research and interdisciplinary collaborations.
The aim of the event is to encourage collaborative work, promoting international development and cross disciplinary thinking among the next generation of leaders in engineering. In order to help cement new collaborations, groups of participants are invited to apply for up to £30k seed funding to help develop a new collaborative partnership.
Participants whose work is relevant to international development are selected from industry, academia and government both within the UK and in emerging and developing economies. The symposia take the form of multidisciplinary challenge-based workshops that aim to:
Facilitate new international, interdisciplinary collaborations that address global challenges
Enhance the reputation of engineering for development with future engineering and international development leaders
Build a network of alumni who have lasting and impactful collaborations that are cross-disciplinary and international in nature.
