Barriers to women advancing in their careers, or following a particular career path, can include a lack of diverse and visible role models, as well as a shortage of professional networks to help them. As part of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED18), the Royal Academy of Engineering is hosting a special lunch where attendees can share their progressive ideas.

Like many other professions, engineering has a gender pay gap because of the shortage of women in the profession. Now is the time for engineering organisations to address barriers to career progression and seek ways to increase gender parity at all levels.
