There will be two opportunities to attend the autumn term training for Teacher Coordinators: Monday 16 October and Monday 23 October between 10.00am to 3.30pm. Both days will take place at the Royal Academy of Engineering, 3 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5DG.


10.00am Arrival, refreshments and networking
10.20am Introduction and updates A short presentation on the Academy’s collaborative approach with professional engineering institutes in the 2018 Year of Engineering, and what the future holds for the Connecting STEM Teachers programmme.
10.30am Mission to Mars The space industry has led to many innovations that have had a positive impact on life on earth. Rebecca Hill will introduce the latest Academy resource based on the exploration of space and how engineers make it possible to live on other planets.
11.00am Rocket Women Vinita Marwaha Madill is an advocate for women in STEM. She is currently based at the European Space Agency (ESA) working on future human spaceflight projects as a Space Operations Engineer. Vinita will describe her STEM journey from school to present day, how she developed a passion for human spaceflight and exploration and when careers in the Science and Engineering industries can take you.
11.30am EngineeringUK: Tomorrow's Engineers Energy Quest and EEP Robotics Challenge An overview of two of EngUK STEM outreach programmes with a view to future collaborative practices. Energy Quest is a free, cross curricular schools programme that aims to bring a spark to STEM learning for 11-14 year olds. The Elite Engineering Programme Robotics Challenge
is a team competition to build, program and control autonomous LEGO robots to complete in a series of short, exciting space missions using free kits for each school.
12.30pm Lunch
1.05pm Engineering in the Movies Our next learning resource box features a wealth of resources that put movies at the heart of learning. Scott Atkinson will give a brief introduction to the activities with an opportunity to provide feedback and ideas for development.
1.30pm VEX Robotics is a popular collaborative project resource and VEX will present a bespoke offer to the Academy and the CST programme. This practical session for TCs is an opportunity to build and undertake some short driving challenges with VEX IQ kits delivered by Michael Nelson (TC for County Durham).
3.30pm End of event

Accommodation and travel

Accommodation can will be provided for those Teacher Coordinators who are travelling from outside of England or those who have a particularly difficult journey. Teacher Coordinators who require accommodation need to inform Lynette Dunford as soon as possible. Standard class travel expenses to and from London will be covered by the Academy.
