Hinton Lecture 2016: Engineering the Future of Data

The Hinton Lecture is the flagship lecture of the Academy.  Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt FREng, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford and Principal of Jesus College will give this year's lecture.

The exponential rates of advance in computing are transforming the world we live in. The computational fabric that underpins our world is connected to every aspect of modern life; from health to education, transport to energy, finance to defence. There is a dawning recognition that the data this fabric consumes, generates and transfers is an important asset.

Data once considered dry, dull and boring is at the heart of our digital society. Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt will demonstrate that data is a vital infrastructure; for individuals, organisations and nation states that needs to be engineered, curated and cared for.
