Charles Tracy discussed what a school physics curriculum based on big ideas and the practices of physics and engineering might look like. The IOP’s curriculum committee has developed an emerging position on what the school physics curriculum might look like after the next review and guidance for its framework. Charles makes the case for such a framework and describe what it might look like - including what constitutes a big idea. He also discussed the challenges that the committee faced in trying to consider the curriculum in this way and what the next steps might be.
