Professor Brian Ellison FREng

STFC Senior Fellow and Head of the Millimetre-Wave Technology and Chilbolton Radio Group, STFC RAL Space

Brian Ellison is an internationally-recognised leader in (sub)millimetre-wave and terahertz frequency heterodyne receivers used for astronomy and atmospheric remote sensing. As a Senior STFC Fellow in the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Space Department (RAL Space), he directs the Millimetre-wave Technology and Chilbolton Radio Group, and leads a large team of research engineers engaged in developing new instrumentation for space missions and other applications.

He developed world-leading receiver instrumentation at Caltech, USA, and led the UK technical contribution to the construction of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) – the world’s largest and most complex radio astronomy observatory.
