Professor Michael Wisnom FREng
Professor of Aerospace Structures, University of Bristol; Director, Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS); Director, Rolls-Royce Composites UTC
As founder and Director of the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science in Bristol (ACCIS), Michael Wisnom has established a world-leading centre that provides underpinning research used in the design, development and safety testing of high value composite structures such as aircraft and jet engines. He has innovated methods used to predict distortion, delamination, residual stress and fatigue which have enabled the design and manufacture of such critically important components as helicopter rotor and turbine blades and wing spar connections. The use of composites is reducing weight and fuel consumption which improves the sustainability of modern air travel.
