Public affairs overview
The public affairs strategy is focused on three particular policy areas over the next year. These areas are broad enough to encompass a wide variety of other issues. They are:
Together with these three overarching platforms the Academy is also developing collateral on some specific policy areas and will be targeting interested Parliamentarians to develop these policy positions further. There are significant opportunities to develop these positions, particularly as we move towards a General Election in 2010. These policy areas are:

Education and Skills

Our key aims are to:

engage our audiences with the work of the Academy;

create a favourable impression of the Academy amongst a wide range of individuals and organisations;

demonstrate the relevance of the Academy and of engineering generally to society;

encourage more people to study engineering and to pursue a career in engineering;
-
exercise real influence over the development of public policy;
-
enhance the perceived authority of the Academy among opinion formers.
