PolicyNet Meeting

The new series of PolicyNet meetings began on 29th November with Fiona Clouder-Richards, Head of Science and Innovation for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Her talk “Leading SIN” gave PolicyNet members an insight into the development of the FCO's Science and Innovation Network and the role of science in international relations. She highlighted the three main areas in which SIN could add value as being: wealth creation; science policy; and public diplomacy. This was seen by senior ministers as being extremely valuable, a position backed up by increased funding which had allowed the network to more than triple its numbers in three years. She hoped that through the network, the UK would continue to encourage excellence in global science, engineering and innovation as well as maintain its position of global influence and leadership.

The talk concluded with a lively question and answer session and the event as a whole was both informative and stimulating for all those who attended.
